Corten steel is used in the construction of metal shipping containers’ corrugated wall panels, frame, cargo doors, and cross members. The main component of shipping containers is this unique kind of steel, sometimes referred to as weathering steel.

Typically, 14 gauge corrugated sheet steel panels are used to construct the walls of tiny cargo containers. These panels are welded to the remainder of the construction and have a thickness of 0.075 inches. The 7 gauge tubular steel used for the frame, pillars, and rails is significantly thicker at 0.187 inches.
